My Approach to Helping
Hello! My name is Lorin Terrell and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Colorado. I treat all clinical issues, using a collaborative and client centered approach. I also practice from a trauma and culturally responsive lens, meaning your personal experiences are validated and included in any therapeutic work we do together. My approach to providing therapy services is first and foremost, client centered. My clients are the experts on their unique experiences and circumstances, I am simply the guide to get them where they want to be. Theoretical approaches I commonly use include EMDR, Systems Theory, DBT, CBT and Solution-Focused Therapy. Because I am a marriage and family therapist, I take a systems approach to issues clients are facing, particularly when it comes to relationships with others.
I have worked with all ages, but prefer to work with adults 18+. Emerging young adults are my favorite population to work with. Sessions with me feel safe, validating, comfortable and calm. I determined I wanted to be a therapist at the age of 15, after my own positive experience with a therapist as a teenager. I then went on to complete college and graduate school. I believe this work is truly meaningful and the opportunity to support others through difficult times and experiences is truly an honor.
I approach goal setting collaboratively. If I set a goal that doesn't matter to the client, than it is not a good goal! A client centered and culturally responsive assessment of their presenting problems and their goals for therapy.
