Mental Health in Columbia

Recent episodes of school violence nationwide prompted the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) to host a forum on mental health and school safety in February 2018. According to officials, the HCPSS receives approximately two threats each month. In the forum, community members expressed concern about the lack of mental health professionals on school staff. Six percent of Columbia residents who are under age 65 do not have health insurance.
