My Approach to Helping
Hi, I’m Maddy! I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, moving to Raleigh, NC as a teenager. I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I earned my bachelor’s degrees in both Psychology and Spanish with a minor in neuroscience. During my time at Carolina, I worked to prevent gender, sexual, and other intimate partner violence, where I discovered my passion for helping and supporting others going through difficult times and experiencing trauma.
I completed my master’s degree at the University of Denver (DU) with a concentration in Health and Wellness where I was able to expand my understanding of the the mindbody connection, as well as the several ways we view wellness beyond traditional healthcare. During my time at DU, I interned at Sacred Heart House of Denver, a shelter for women and children experiencing homelessness, as well as at Salud Family Health centers where I was able to further expand my clinical skills and clinical Spanish, working one on one with patients in an integrated care setting. At DU, I also obtained a certificate in Animal Assisted Social Work.
I take a client-centered approach to therapy as I want to support my clients in finding effective modalities that feel effective for you! I draw frequently in sessions from:
-Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
-Somatic and breath work
-Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
-Motivational Interviewing (MI)
-Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
I strive to help clients find new coping skills to manage difficult times and emotions. I am always looking to grow and continue my learning. Currently, I am looking to work with individuals of all ages.
I have experience working with clients experiencing:
-anxiety
-depression
-adjustment disorders
-stressors and difficult life transitions
-traumatic experiences and PTSD
-suicidality and self-harm
-grief
