My Approach to Helping
Hello. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor, and I enjoy getting to know my clients and helping them work towards better mental health.
I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Scientific research has shown that CBT helps with many of the problems that cause people to seek counseling. I try to help people recognize internalized fearsnegative beliefs that lead to increased feelings of depression, anxiety, anger, and guilt. These negative thinking patterns often make it harder to function in work and in relationships. Working on these fears and negative thoughtsbeliefs helps people change their behaviors and emotions.
Most of my clients are experiencing depression and anxiety. Relationship and family conflict and anger problems are also common issues that I'm used to working with.
I try to be understanding and non-judgmental so that you can feel more comfortable expressing yourself.
When I was in college I was originally planning to major in biology, but when I took the required psychology class I really enjoyed it. I eventually decided to take more psychology classes and I made it my major.
I try to support you along the way to making positive changes in your life and reaching your goals. If you have big goals, I try to help you break them down into small steps.
During our first session we will talk about your reasons for wanting to do therapy. We will go over some of your background information. I'll try to introduce you to some information about mental health and we will talk about your goals.
