My Approach to Helping
My name is Marc Antonio. I'm an LMFT based in Fresno, California who sees clients throughout the state via telehealth. I work with young adults and specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, and attachment using a combination of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and sensorimotor psychotherapy (SP) to help my clients work toward their goals and create a life worth living. I use EMDR to help clients identify past experiences that are linked to today's stressors so they can reprocess them and reduce the impact those memories have on today. I enjoy skill-building with clients and helping them learn to listen more to their body and wise mind.
I work well with young adults who are trying to find themselves, heal old wounds, and live their most authentic life. I have a soft spot in my heart for those who are along the nerdygeeky spectrum, have a love for pop culture, sci-fi, and fantasy, and who survived bullying by family or peers. I like to help clients turn those things that were used to set them apart and develop them into awesome strengths and resources.
My communication style can be a combination of warm and reciprocal but I don't mind leaning into "real talk" when needed. I do my best to match my client's language and do my best to translate my therapy-speak into things that they can understand, absorb, and adapt to their everyday lives. I've always been drawn to the helping field. I started out as a volunteer in the community working with the homeless population and child abuse survivors. Being a part of someone's healing journey has been incredibly rewarding.
I like to take a collaborative approach to goal setting with clients and that starts with trust, comfort, and consent. I do my best to provide a non-judgmental space to earn trust, build a level of comfort, and check in with the client to make sure they feel heard. The first session with me is spent getting to know one another, building a level of comfort, and building rapport. The relationship we build is so important to your healing journey. I like to explore your strengths, interests, what is working now, and what worked in the past. We'll look into as much background as you're comfortable with sharing so we can see how your past connects to your present.
