My Approach to Helping
Hello, my name is Maria Baldasseroni, I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in the state of California. I see the journey taken in psychotherapy as one of the most important journeys one can take for self discovery and sense of self empowerment. I also firmly believe that the first step toward creating a healthy environment that nourishes healthy relationships starts with the ability to look within and create a safe space where to practice self compassion and self love.
My approach to therapy is humanistic and relational. I believe that the space created between the client and the therapist is where the healing magically happens. My back ground is multicultural and my approach is informed by mindfulness and practiced with compassion and empathy. The theories I mostly draw from are Client Centered, DBT, CBT, Psychodynamic, Jungian, Gestalt, Existentialist. I mostly work with adults who suffers from mild to moderate depression, anxiety and adjustment disorder. I work with adults who are going through life transitions or are dealing with unresolved trauma and grief. I am trained in EMDR and utilize it for trauma related conditions.
I am a warm and personable individual who loves communication and comes from a collective culture where I learned the value of being direct and sincere. My practice style is infused with wisdom and also a touch of humor. I have always been very curious about human behavior the human psyche. I am fascinated about what motivates people and what background they have had that contributed to their life experiences. I, myself, have had to deal with many obstacles and conquer internal and external battles in order to grow into the person I am now and enjoying being. I believe that the therapy's journey is one of the most important journeys one can take in this life time because once you know yourself, you basically know everyone else. You learn to navigate the human experience in a way that allows you to be "the captain of your ship." As Carl Jung wrote: "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate."
I work around the client's needs and desires and together we define the goals for the therapy along the journey. Clients should expect a session where we meet each other and they can utilize the time to tell me what brings them to therapy at this time, what they want to work on and what do they hope to achieve from therapy. Clients can ask me questions also to clarify how I work and to better understand my approach.
