My Approach to Helping
I view the world as one, big system, consisting of many smaller, intertwining systems. Because you are part of those systems, what you do can actually change everything: yes, just like the butterfly effect. No matter your views, identity, or culture, I'm here to work with you, your family, friends, partners, kin, covens, groups, organizations, societies... to address your needs and bring your systems back into alignment.
Let me help you learn to change the world around you and increase your happiness. I know, sounds like a lofty goal. But it's possible just by learning to change how you choose to move through the world. My job is to help you make that happen by offering you the skills and tools to do it.
I am as comfortable with the "traditional" as I am with any other life path. My own history is very colorful, and it's quite possible that I or someone I know has "been there" too. Even so, every story is unique, and I want to learn about you, from your perspective, because therapy with me is all about you.
More Info About My Practice
Science tells us that we can’t control the past and we can’t predict the future. It also tells us that we can control ourselves in this very moment of time. The present. I teach my clients about mindfulness. While meditation might become a part of your treatment, mindfulness is simply becoming aware of the present moment. No matter what we are working on in sessions, learning to become attuned to what is happening right now in your body and mind is the most important skill that I can teach you. The only thing you can control is your behavior. Everything you do is a choice. Even inaction is a choice. Mindfulness helps to get in touch with the present moment and make behavior decisions based on the person you want to be instead of the emotion you are experiencing.\
How Psychotherapy Can Help
When you feel sick, you go to the doctor. Well, you might go to your mom or your grandma or somebody who knows how to make a good bowl of soup, but generally, if there is something happening that a Tylenol cannot fix, you go to the doctor. Same thing with mental health. If you are having a problem in your life that is not getting fixed by whatever you have been trying to do so far, then it is time to go see someone like me. But, just like when a doctor gives you a prescription or a list of things to do at home to feel better, if you do not actively participate in therapy for your mental health, nothing is going to work. So, if you do do have the desire, the ability, the readiness, the need, and the commitment to work with me to help you take control over your life and make changes for the better, then I can pretty much guarantee that what you will get out of therapy with me will be much better than that bowl of soup.
