My Approach to Helping

Martin Beck Counseling at the Woodland Group
Everyone has the potential for growth and change, and I am here to help you achieve your goals!

Do you ever feel a sense of unease even when everything seems to be going well? Sometimes, it's as though something is missing or you're not quite living up to your own expectations. It's easy to become absorbed in chasing our goals, only to feel unfulfilled or unhappy. I understand that we all face these moments, and it can be challenging to navigate them alone. That's where I come in as your partner in healing. My role is to guide you back to balance and peace.

Whether you're grappling with anxiety, depression, the impact of past traumas, or simply trying to find your way, I'm here to listen. Often, a quiet inner voice says something isn't right, and imperfections may overshadow your accomplishments. I recognize the effort behind your achievements and the desire for a life harmonizing success with inner peace.

Dealing with feelings of inadequacy, depression, anxiety, past traumas, or the pain of toxic relationships can be a formidable challenge. However, you are not alone. I'm here to accompany you on this journey, providing a space for your voice and story to be heard and valued.

The most challenging battles can be mental, but I am committed to helping you find a therapeutic path that is uniquely tailored to your needs. Whether it's through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), humanistic and existential approaches, or the depth of psychodynamic psychotherapy, we will work together to find the best approach for you.

Your journey towards personal growth and self-discovery will receive my undivided, personalized attention. We will progress at a pace that feels right for you. If you're struggling with perfectionism or navigating complex relationships, I invite you to explore and understand your narrative for meaningful transformation.

Healing is a collaborative process. Grounded in trauma-informed care, we lay the groundwork for your healing journey. Sharing your deepest thoughts and emotions can be difficult, but I pledge to provide a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental environment.
In our sessions, expect genuine empathy and a profound dedication to understanding your experiences. One of the things I love about my work is the opportunity to connect with every person I support. Your well-being is my priority, and I'm keen to learn about your life's path. Taking the step to reach out is an act of courage. Contact me, and let's embark on the path to the change you seek. Your story matters, and I'm here to listen – offering support and comfort during difficult times.
Honor your past, care for your present, and embrace your true self. Let us begin this journey of healing together.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

I wasn't always a therapist; I am also an artist. Honored with two New Jersey State Council on the Arts fellowships, my artwork has been showcased in many prestigious exhibitions. Through my art, I have explored the human condition, drawing inspiration from an existential and humanistic viewpoint.

As a first-generation American, I have firsthand experience of immigrants and their families' challenges while navigating our complex society and institutions. My background reminds me of the need for empathy and understanding in my therapeutic work.

Around 25 years ago, I received a diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis (AS), a form of arthritis that causes stiffness and pain in joints and connective tissues. While I managed the condition for a considerable period, its effects eventually impacted my art practice and daily life. Adapting to these changes, I decided to pursue a second career in psychotherapy. This transition prompted a reevaluation of my priorities and values, ultimately guiding me toward supporting others in navigating their own adversities.

My personal experiences have taught me that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I firmly believe in tailoring the therapeutic experience to meet each client's unique needs. By doing so, I can provide them with the support and tools they require to make real and lasting changes in their lives.
