How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

In my own personal life, I have struggled with heartbreak and relationship conflicts. I have been through a painful divorce very early in my life. I experienced a roller coaster of anxiety, grief, and despair for a few years followed by renewed hope and happiness for the next few years when I remarried only to find myself struggling with some of the same relational disappointments all over again! Around that time, in my professional life, I started training in Imago Couples Therapy to expand my skills to work with couples in my private practice. The training made me realize at a deeper level the issues I was having in my marriage and led to me and my husband receiving support and insight through our own couples counseling.

This became a catalyst for working on my own marriage along with my husband using the principles of Imago Approach in an intense way to repair the ruptures in our connection and heal past wounds while learning to grow in ways that enabled us to meet each other's deepest longings and dreams and experience a transformation in our marriage! I have now been married for 15 years, and having personally benefited tremendously as a result of Imago self-work is what led me to seek specialized advanced couples training to help other couples in their relationship journey. I am passionate about helping couples discover a new realm of possibilities in their relationship with each other and to live a joyful life full of passion and intimacy!

My own personal suffering also led me to explore Buddhist Psychology and Mindfulness practices aimed at alleviating suffering and cultivating self-compassion, loving kindness and happinesswellbeing. They have been instrumental in helping me awaken, learn to love myself and heal the wounds of my inner child by applying the balm of love to my own wounded heart. This has helped experience intimacy with myself, my partner and with the world at large. It has also helped me learn to relate to my suffering as a gateway to self-compassion and loving kindness. Transforming my trauma by using the pain as a cue to awaken love for myself & others has enabled me to experience profound healing and happiness!

I now live my life with an intention of letting myself be loved, opening myself to the countless opportunities of receiving love from myself & others and savouring the joy of being loved! From that flows the intention to give love and to open myself to the countless opportunities to love myself, my familyfriends, my clients and the world at large...

I wish you well in your journey to discover the sense of love!
