Leesburg is the seat of Loudoun County, Virginia. Originally called George Town, the name was changed to Leesburg in 1758. The town was incorporated in 1813. Leesburg has a land area of 12 square miles.

The Town of Leesburg has had a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Assessment Center since 2015. If police officers encounter a resident experiencing a mental health crisis, they can bring the resident to the center for treatment.
