My Approach to Helping
I am Milov Sonnier a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Virginia. I work with clients statewide via telehealth. I specialize in women's issues, trauma, PTSD, thought disorders, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and more. I use integrative approaches to help my clients make progress and to begin to feel better.
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client. I most frequently use humanistic and psychodynamic approaches. These approaches help the client and myself develop a shared understanding of the client's reality.
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults who are experiencing transition periods in their lives, and have traumatic memories that surface due to current life stressors. I help clients make connections to their past traumatic experiences to better understand how unaddressed trauma can negatively impact daily functioning. My work with clients also focuses on understanding how thoughts drive behaviors.
My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking to me about anything. I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment.
I have a passion for helping people by listening and developing an understanding of their experiences.
My approach to setting goals with clients is an interactive process. I allow the client to tell me what they desire to work on. I work with the client in a collaborative manner to set measurable achievable goals.
During your first session with me, you can expect that I will ask you to discuss the circumstances that have led you to therapy and what you are hoping to get out of the therapy experience. You can expect that I will ask questions about your past history and how you perceive the health and strength of your relationships.
