My Approach to Helping

Are you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward? You may be dealing with anxiety, low mood, or challenges in your relationships. Perhaps unhelpful habits or recurring thoughts and feelings are preventing you from feeling your best. What you likely want is clarity, peace of mind, and to feel more in control of your emotions and behaviours.

As a therapist experienced with international clients, I can help you understand the origins of your emotional and behavioural patterns. Using proven techniques from Emotionally Focused Therapy and CBT, I can guide you to develop greater self-awareness and a wider variety of tools, so you have more control over how you respond to life's challenges.

I understand that seeking support for life's challenges, mental health issues, or addictions can feel daunting. Please know that all communication will be handled with the utmost discretion, and that you will be met with understanding, compassion, and absolutely no judgment. Please contact me to schedule a free 15-minute consultation.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With

Addiction Recovery Support

Many people turn to substances or other behaviours as a way to avoid uncomfortable thoughts and feelings such as shame, sadness, and boredom. You might feel very stressed about a relationship issue and drink to calm yourself down, or you might feel bored and use social media to distract yourself but then spend hours scrolling. You may have even developed a dependency to strong substances to help cope with past trauma. These behaviours can provide temporary relief from underlying issues, but they often lead to more problems in the long run.?

In my practice, I use Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) to help you understand and address these underlying issues. We work together to build tolerance for uncomfortable emotions, develop self-compassion, and accept parts of yourself that you might have previously avoided. This approach not only reduces the need to escape through problematic behaviours but also helps you live a more fulfilling and authentic life.

?I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques to help reduce these tendencies. CBT helps you identify and change negative thought patterns that lead to problematic behaviours. For instance, if you tend to think "I can?t handle this stress without drinking," CBT can help you challenge and change this belief. Mindfulness techniques help you stay present and aware of your thoughts and feelings without judgement, reducing the impulse to escape or avoid them. Through our sessions, we'll use these strategies to reduce distress and give you the freedom to live as you truly want.

Unfortunately, stigma towards people with substance use issues or addictions still exists, and I am strongly against this. I understand that individuals who struggle with these behaviours are not bad people but are experiencing difficult things and deserve help. Society often wrongly views those with these issues as making immoral choices without regard for others, which is simply not true. My aim is to create a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore the underlying reasons for your behaviours, understand your patterns, and make meaningful changes. By reflecting on these patterns, you can move towards a healthier, more fulfilling life without the need to escape.
