My Approach to Helping
Many issues can prompt us to make the call to a therapist -- a difficult relationship, a significant loss, holding a painful secret, navigating transition, feeling stuck or confused, a stressful job, a betrayal, a traumatic experience. Often we don't even know what the real problem is. Or perhaps you're looking for help pursuing personal growth? Whatever you are going through or seeking for yourself, change is possible. As we build our relationship together, you will have the opportunity to avail yourself of this experience as a way to sort out feelings and reactions, both in the present and from the past. When you experience feeling deeply listened to and understood, things often begin to feel different. This can lead to having the confidence to make profound changes toward a more fulfilling life.
My style is warm, caring and respectful. My approach is active and responsive; offering feedback with a compassionate blend of support and challenge. I work at a level of depth but I am also practical and down to earth. I integrate inquiry, conversation and, when appropriate, mind-body techniques (i.e., mindfulness, somatic awareness, guided imagery) and 12-Step support. I work to help you feel supported and understood while also challenging you to access and develop your strengths and potential for a more emotionally rewarding life. Together we work to build your experiences of clarity and vitality.
It is an honor to work closely with my clients, to share in their exploration and see their progress. I've enjoyed working with people from many different backgrounds for over 27 years. I have extensive experience working with people who come from families where addiction is present, with military members and veterans, and with people who have cultivated their intellect and creativity and who would now like to develop their emotional and relational worlds.
