My Approach to Helping
Hello, very nice to meet you. I am so glad that you are here taking the first step toward change, and making your life happen for you instead of to you. Originally from New York, where all of my degrees were completed, I relocated to Arizona 14 years ago and I am still loving working with patients in the mental health field, and of course, I am still enjoying this fantastic sunshine. I love helping people help themselves, plus helping people see that there is always hope for change. I am a Master of Science level Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPC) in Arizona. Besides the MS degree, I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and an associate's degree with a concentration in Behavioral Health Science. I work with various populations such as substance use, domestic violence, sexual abuse victims, and complex posttraumatic stress (PTSD), who respond very well to trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), always working toward the goals you set at the beginning of sessions. Trauma-focused CBT is the foundation of my treatment modality, plus complementing therapies that incorporate well as needed, such as brief solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) techniques, psychoeducation, along with psychodynamic therapy, discussing current and/or past trauma you may have been exposed to. I can incorporate eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as needed. Occasional client practice work outside of therapy helps move clients closer to meeting therapy goals. I work with adult clients 18 years old to seniors. I am looking forward to meeting you. Together we will learn and practice some techniques and tools to use away from therapy on your own, that can help reduce anxiety, ease depression, and work on past trauma that may still be affecting today's moods. Hope to see you soon. Sincerely, Nanette M Klaus MS MHC LPC
