My Approach to Helping
My name is Nathaniel Mitchell, and I am a licensed certified social worker (LCSW) based in the Central Mississippi area and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adults and adolescents and specialize in grief and loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, stress, oppositional behaviors, and attention-deficit hyperactivity. I used various evidence-based interventions according to the specific needs of the client.
My approach is building trust and a therapeutic, trusting relationship with clients. I approach each case individually and each client's journey is unique to their perspectives. Some theoretical approaches I provide are cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-focused, psychodynamics therapy, motivational interviewing, person-centered, mindfulness, conflict resolution, and psychodynamic.
I am motivated to work with adolescents and adults, who experience anxious and depressive feelings, trauma, stress, unstable mood, communication, and boundaries issues, to live more healthy and productive lives.
In every session, I create a warm, therapeutic, and trusting environment. My communication style is calm with positive energy, accommodating, and personable.
I have been a therapist for more than 20 years. The desire to assist individuals to become change agents and heal has attracted me to the career as a therapist. Before becoming a therapist, as a Bachelor of Sociology and Social Work professional, I was a frontline worker assisting families and children who experienced psychosocial issues and traumas in the State of Mississippi. To clinically and psychologically assist individuals and families, I pursued a Master of Social Work and became an independent provider. After working as a therapist in various settings including acute hospitals, partial hospitals, intensive outpatient, and private practice, I decided to pursue a higher level of education and attained a Doctor of Social Work specializing in marriage, couple, family, adult, and child and adolescent counseling. Other specialized areas included prevention, intervention, and consultation.
My approach to goal setting is active listening to the client's concerns and perspectives, assessing the most appropriate interventions with the client, working with the client to identify what needs to be accomplished, and regularly tracking progress to make the necessary adjustments for the most efficient change and growth.
During the first session, the therapist will build a trusting and helping relationship, orientate the client about the platformtherapy process, address concerns, and discuss presenting problems aligned with the client's level of comfort.
