My Approach to Helping
My primary goal in the work I do is to help alleviate the suffering of my clients. As my patient, you and I will arrive at a shared understanding of the root cause(s) of the hardships you are facing and work towards a path of stability and serenity. This begins by establishing a trusting and respectful relationship, which we will use as the foundation of the challenging work we'll do. To facilitate this, I’ll be encouraging you to express yourself if you are feeling hesitant towards exploring certain topics, and I regularly welcome feedback.
Healing takes place when you can experience unrestricted access to the resources of compassion, curiosity, and stillness that we each carry within us. When pain causes us to disconnect from ourselves and the world around us, it turns into suffering. Therapy, and the relationship that we will construct together throughout, is a crucial way that you can begin to repair those connections. This involves working to notice and shift the patterns that have been dominating your life. Addressing them can create space for more flexibility, choice, and freedom from internal and external forces that have been driving you. Doing so involves looking at your experience as it unfolds in the present moment, while working towards an understanding of the past events and circumstances shaping it.
I combine strategies from the approaches I have studied and been trained in: Compassionate Inquiry, Internal family Systems therapy, and relationalattachment based therapy. Using Compassionate Inquiry, we'll explore the connection between your mind, body, past, and present. This approach helps to cultivate self compassion, insight, and healing from past wounds. The techniques of Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS) provides us with a variety of tools to get to know the various parts of your personality and mind more closely. By employing these specific tools, we can address some of your automatic experiences and behaviors such as substance use, problematic eating, self criticism, social withdrawal, aggression, and many others. Lastly, the attachment based framework I work through, will help you to understand and change the ways that you relate to yourself and others. Join me in uncovering and healing the unspoken beliefs which may have been shaping your perspective for years without your awareness.
