My Approach to Helping
Therapy can give you a space to speak freely and listen to yourself in new and different ways. Many people I see in my practice are young adult children of immigrant parents who experience painful conflicts within their family of origin that lead to separation, emotional distance, or even estrangement. I also work with individuals who want support with exploring sexuality and gender identity in a nonjudgmental, open and accepting space. I also work with couples who want to change frustrating patterns in their relationship
As a psychodynamic and culturally aware therapist, I am curious about the deeper, unconscious meaning of your difficulties and where they might have originated, and the connections between your past and present experiences. Whether you are a couple or an individual, I can help you make sense of the chaos inside, create breathing space, a chance to finally let your guard down and speak your mind. I see the therapeutic relationship as a collaborative project between us, a creative exploration of your most important life questions.
Deciding to see a therapist is a significant and courageous first step. I welcome you to call or email me to make a phone appointment, and we will talk more in depth about your unique situation and what you'd like to get out of therapy. I look forward to hearing from you.

How Psychotherapy Can Help
Change happens when we take greater responsibility for how we want to live. Among other things, you may find that the way you coped with problems in the past is no longer serving you now, and that a fundamental change is necessary in your life in order to grow. Therapy can help you identify the crucial decisions that will shape your path moving forward into the future.
Change can?t happen without taking a risk. There are no guarantees in life. Yet staying stuck in the same place is costly. Therapy invites you to face your fears and step into the unknown, for this is your only opportunity to create something new in your life.
You will have to make the change, but you won?t be alone. As your therapist, I will be right there with you the whole way.
My Role as a Therapist
As the therapist, my main role is to listen deeply to your thoughts, feelings, desires and dreams with an open and curious mind. Not only am I listening, but I am actively inquiring about how you experience the world and what changes you want to make in your life. During the course of therapy, your feelings about myself or the work we are doing together may emerge; talking about these feelings can be useful to explore. The relationship you have with a therapist is unlike any other in your life, and therefore can lead to a new understanding of yourself.
What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process
I want to assure you that you don't have to know exactly what's wrong when you go to your first session with a therapist, and it's normal to feel uncomfortable or scared.
Starting therapy is hard and ambivalence about it is expected. Most of my patients are reluctant to seek help until the problems they are facing make it absolutely critical to take a risk, to admit their vulnerability and loss of control to themselves. If this sounds like you, I encourage you to make an appointment today.
