My Approach to Helping
Going through different life phases can be challenging, especially without the right support. Sometimes, we need help to realign with our values and a space to discuss current life stressors. Other times we need to heal from the past to truly live our best lives. My services are designed to support several populations: Young adults and college students, pregnant and postpartum women, individuals seeking to improve self-esteem, and adults ready to address past traumas.
I am a very collaborative therapist. I want to address what is most important to you. Some come to me wanting to address current-day stressors, others have painful memories and experiences already identified. I can do both but I will always educate my clients on how much more effective treatment is when you are willing to explore and get to the root of the problem. We can apply coping strategies to the current triggers just like you can pick a dandelion by its stem and leaves and flower, but often times the most effective way to get rid of a weed is to dig it up by the roots. I tend to lean into acceptance and commitment therapy and internal family systems therapy but my all-time favorite approach to help my clients is EMDR. Please feel free to reach out and I can elaborate more on what I think would be the best approaches for you based on what you are looking to address in therapy. I always offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if we are the right fit!
More Info About My Practice
I offer virtual availability on Tuesdays, and I am in my office on Wednesdays and Thursdays (virtually or in person). My office is located on 6th and Canyon Blvd in Boulder. If you are looking into EMDR intensives, I schedule these out weeks in advance on Fridays. In the consultation, we can discuss this further.
What I Usually Need to Know to Help
Consultation calls usually start with discussing scheduling and financial logistics in order to determine compatibility prior to you sharing vulnerable information about what you are looking for in therapy. After that I want to know your current goals for therapy and current symptoms and daily functioning. I will also want to know if you have been in therapy before and what you liked or disliked about it in the past. And I want to know your readiness for this work. I work best with people who are committed to the process, and aren't in an active crisis. I am only in the office 3 days a week and don't often have time to do emergent sessions. The remainder of the consultation call I will tell you whether I think I can help and how, and then I provide an opportunity for you to ask questions and get to know me. The relationship you have with your therapist is the greatest predictor of success in therapy (even more than modalities or experience the provider has), that means it is really important to me that we feel the conversation is effortless and full of trust. We can usually gauge this in our first interactions with each other, with appropriate expectations that meeting someone new and sharing your most vulnerable stories can still be uncomfortable. I am open to feedback and more than happy to help you find the right fit if I am not it.
