My Approach to Helping
My therapeutic style is easy going but direct, taking an empathetic client-centered approach in an understanding way that fosters a genuine partnership, to promote personal growth in healing & the building of a fulfilling new lifestyle. I customize treatment individually to meet your specific needs along with the technique that works best for you. Having a safe and non-judgmental place to process past or present pain is essential in healing. I believe you are a resilient human being and have a personal strength determined to find change or you wouldn’t be reading this!
My philosophy is that people can change, adjust, learn and adapt to new ways of coping with life stressors that can restore purpose and meaning in their lives. Sometimes making slight adjustments to our belief systems, thought processes, emotions and behaviors can produce a positive life change. I also believe that past traumatic experiences can surface and take over our lives in the here and now, if not treated.
More Info About My Practice
My career in the behavioral healthsubstance use disorder industry began in 1997 at Foundations Sober Living Homes in San Diego, California which I owned for 10 years. Since that time, I realized I had to return to school in 2009 in order to fulfill my purpose in working with others. I earned my Associates Degree in Applied Sciences – Chemical Dependency at Rio Salado College, then I completed my Bachelor of Psychology at Grand Canyon University, and then a Master of Science in Addiction Counseling, also from Grand Canyon University. I’m happy to announce that I graduated with a second Masters degree in Professional Counseling from Ottawa University on 12312021. I currently hold a license as an Arizona LISAC-Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor and I am licensed as a LAC-Licensed Associate Counselor. I began my clinical career in 2008, when I moved to Arizona from San Diego and started working on the clinical side of addiction and behavioral health treatment. I’ve worked in several residential and outpatient treatment facilities across Arizona both in the public and private sector.
I would like to say welcome to Phoenix Foundations Recovery and your new way of life. Please remember you’re not alone!

How Psychotherapy Can Help
Often, working with people who are experiencing some form or severity of addiction have an underlining psychological issue they are self-medicating such as stress, anxiety, social anxiety, anger, trauma, abandonment, situational depression or a life adjustment. When this underlined issue is treated, the severity and distress of the addiction is reduced. I have 27 years' experience working in addictions and mental health, both public and private. Although I've been involved in 12 step programs for 39 years but understand that (one size does not fit all) and using many alternative strategies is good practice.
