My Approach to Helping
Hello, my name is Landon Jordan, I am so happy that you have reached out for help. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina. I have worked for several years to help clients achieve their goals and reach a better quality of life. I have several years of experience as a crisis therapist, as well as experience with dual diagnosis populations, I primarily focus on individuals that have mental health needs as well as life and adjustment issues.
I enjoy working with clients, I enjoy getting to know them and trying to find an approach to help treat their issues that they feel will work best for them. I tend to be more solution focus, also utilize cognitive behavioral therapy approaches, psychodynamic approaches, I have experiences well with expressive arts therapy and I have a very thorough clinical knowledge of mental health and substance use disorders.
I typically work with adults, I am most comfortable treating mental health issues and life adjustment issues, I have experience with more clinical aspects as well as creative aspects in treatment approaches.
I like to use a very comfortable, person-centered approach, I vary my style according to the situation and the person, however, I do utilize some clinical approaches as well as a humanistic approach. I tried to create a relaxed and open environment where clients feel they can be open, honest and gain a better understanding of themselves and their issues, and hopefully grow and continue to improve in their life's journey.
I was initially attracted to counseling because I have a fascination with psychology and I wanted to utilize my skills to be helpful to other people. Through the years I have grown to become a good therapist, I thoroughly enjoy working with clients and learning as well as the unique challenges that being a therapist brings every single day.
I tried to actively involve clients as much as possible in setting goals. I try to utilize and approach as an ally to the client with some tangible and simple goal outcome with flexibility to make adjustments as needed.
During the first session, I may utilize a clinical assessment, which is basically a lot of standard questions which is helpful in order to understand the nature of what led the client to seek counseling. I try to get to know the person and try to establish some rapport, I try to make the experience as relaxed as possible. I also try to formulate a basic treatment plan and I answer any questions the client may have, I typically give some insight and some guidance on the first session.
