My Approach to Helping

During the spring of my freshman year, I took "Modern Social Welfare Dilemmas", which started my interest in social work. Midway through my junior year, my family suffered a heavy, earth-shattering loss. Being a college student, I did not have the time nor the means to regularly attend individual therapy, so I leaned into family, friends and faith to assist me during this loss. I found that there was nothing more helpful during my healing journey than the people who offered to sit with me in my pain - not offer solutions, opinions, advice or distractions. These individuals allowed me an outlet to feel all the emotions. I decided to become a therapist so I could do the same for others. My hope for clients in the healing process is that they always feel heard, truly heard. I want my clients to know that while I cannot physically step into their shoes, solve their problems, or take their problems away, they do not have to face them alone.
