My Approach to Helping
I am glad you're here -- it is courageous to seek expert support in working through issues that seem overwhelming. I have over 15 years' experience working in a variety of clinical settings, from grassroots nonprofit organizations to intensive care units. I am a certified EMDR therapist and I specialize in working with individuals and couples who feel disconnected, specifically those who have experienced trauma and contend with its impact on their sense of stability or wellbeing. I often have success working with people who have had unsatisfying experiences in previous therapy and my clients include therapists, abuse survivors, teachers, and first responders. No matter who you are, my approach to working with you will be non-judgmental, compassionate, and direct.
In all my sessions, I combine EMDR with relational psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, and breathing to best support your therapeutic goals. In my work with couples, I utilize the psychobiological approach to couples therapy (PACT) in conjunction with principles of emotionally-focused therapy (EFT) and other evidence-based modalities.
As a somatic therapist and registered yoga teacher, I am fully dedicated to mind-body healing. I'm also passionate about equity and justice for people of color, LGBTQIA+ folx, and women. I consider each person's many contexts (e.g. racial, cultural, generational, historical) and the subtle ways that past and present life circumstances might impact feelings of safety and authenticity. In our work, I will strive to understand you and help you find a sense of completeness and belonging in your world.
