My Approach to Helping
Rebecca McWhorter, LCSW # 87376 has experience with all age groups within many multicultural settings. I start with where the patient is should they be suffering from depression, anxiety, trauma, andor grief. My practice focuses on patient care.
I utilize many different approaches to healing. I prefer to letting the patient vocalize their needs rather than tailor a patient to a plan. Depends on where the patient is in their recovery. If folks want to do intense guided therapy we can go that route. If they respond better to a solution-focused session we can start there. Basically, I let the patient dictate the tempo of their mental health care. I like to focus on the primary stressors in the patients' life that are having an immediate impact before moving into long-term goals.
I started out by working with at-risk youth just before college. I continued my outreach to struggling groups and individuals which led me to Social Work. Telehealth has allowed me to expand my practice into many new areas with new challenges that keep me driven to do this work. I like to focus on the primary stressors in the patients' life that are having an immediate impact before moving into long-term goals. My first session will generally start with some "housekeeping" or information the patient should be aware of depending on their previous exposure to mental health services. Next is an initial assessment to better understand how the patient arrived at this point in their life and where they would like to go next.
