My Approach to Helping

As an RCC, my practice is focused on helping individuals, couples, and families who are in need of compassion and support as they navigate through mental health concerns and life challenges. People can often feel trapped and powerless and seeking support can help them move forward in their journey with a positive mindset. With empathy and warmth, I work with adults and youth with mental health concerns stemming from adverse childhood experiences and those who struggle with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD, and personality disorders such as BPD. I also support individuals who are experiencing relational trauma, self-esteem issues, burnout, stress management, addictions, concurrent disorders, and grief and loss. I provide trauma counselling for women who are victims of gender-based violence and sexual assault, law enforcement personnel, healthcare workers, and first responders. I work with individuals who require court ordered therapy for respectful relationships and anger management. With a culturally responsive approach, I also support families and immigrants facing inter-generational conflict and mental health issues as well as bicultural identity crises, family problems, acculturative stress, and life transitions.

My approach is integrative and holistic with a developmentally sensitive, neurobiology-informed lens based on understanding trauma's impact on brain development with CBT as my main modality. My approach allows me to gain insight into a client’s unique developmental experiences, trauma responses, worldviews, and dysfunctional thoughts and beliefs. I strongly emphasize collaboration with my clients to understand their narratives and explore their experiences through guided discovery. I support my clients in exploring deep emotions, thoughts, behaviours, and experiences that may be not easy to explore on their own. I help them unravel their story so that they can openly talk about their concerns and gain clarity on how their situation has impacted them and how they can bring about change when they are ready. My approach allows me to tailor therapy to the client’s needs and assess and address their concerns more effectively. I also draw from humanistic, experiential, and emotion-focused therapies.

I truly believe that each individual is the expert on their life and holds the potential to heal through their inner strength and wisdom to improve the quality of their life. With validation, compassion, and trust in the therapeutic relationship, I can help individuals heal from past trauma and support them in navigating through emotional complexities and life transitions, enhancing their quality of life and well-being.

My Role as a Therapist

My role as a therapist is to support you in unravelling your journey while processing your traumatic experiences so you can integrate them into your awareness. I walk alongside you as you explore your concerns and past experiences so that you can identify maladaptive patterns that are no longer serving your best interest. This can help you gain clarity to broaden your perspective regarding your challenges and potential solutions while navigating through complexities so you can make well-informed decisions. With empathy and compassion, my focus is to support you in gaining a sense of empowerment and finding meaning in your experiences that help you gain a sense of acceptance, peace, and revitalization to shape your future with a positive mindset.
