My Approach to Helping
"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom". Viktor Frankl
The kernel of substance in most effective therapy is learning the art and practice of how to be effective choice makers in our own lives --- how to make good, well thought out choices and make them consistently. Therapy helps people discover how important it is to make creative, informed, effective life choices. When to zig and not to zag!
One of the greatest joys in my role as a therapist is helping people realize that through learning to be a good choice maker --- they have the ability to gain a larger measure of power and control in their own lives. That through the power of choice they can gain responsibility for finding their own deeper definitions of meaning, purpose and contentment.

My Role as a Therapist
My role as a therapist, whether working with individuals or couples is to provide a kind ear, support, guidance and acceptance. To treat and value each individual as a separate and unique person.
I try my best to provide encouragement, support, honesty and research proven interventions & strategies that help people to facilitate change and learn how to be better choice makers in their lives. My role is one of helping people to value themselves and look to their own strengths to prevail in their own unique circumstances.
Respecting each individuals worldviews and expertise in their own lives is also a large part of my role. By respecting that each person is ultimately the expert on their own lives --- I can then help them to be resilient and find strategies to author their own life story. I also believe that I learn from each and every person I work with. I often learn as much from a client as they learn from me.
How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist
Therapist's are humans that also have imperfect lives. My own life with all of its joys, achievements, losses and sorrows has certainly made me better at understanding the fragility of the human condition. This humanist understanding helps me to understand my clients in a deeper and more meaningful way. I am also neurodivergent with all that entails.
