My Approach to Helping
Psychotherapy should be affordable, effective, and confidential. I am an active therapist using results focused insight-oriented, analytic, and cognitive approaches in a confidential private practice setting. I also offer video sessions. I listen carefully and closely to help you gain understanding of your behavior and emotions, and give you individual guidance and support to achieve the changes you came in for. In over 35 years of practice as a psychologist it's become very clear that people coming in want to get relief from the first session on. It has also become clear that in most cases, for results to last, there must be some insight, some connection made to the bigger picture of a person's life. Regardless of the emotional distress or patterns needing change, it is always possible to discover the foundational dynamics based in life experience that contribute to the symptoms. This allows initial improvement to continue, and it often results in the person not only solving the problem, but becoming more self aware and psychologically mature as a result of the therapy experience.

Specific Issue(s) I'm Skilled at Helping With
Unresolved inner conflicts and family conflict, past and present, are often the root of many emotional and behavioral problems. Sometimes it is clear and dramatic, often it is subtle and occurs over time through significant relationships. I have learned to help people identify their unresolved inner conflict, and its damaging effects, find clear interventions to get relief, and discover methods to decontaminate its influence on their lives.
My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy has one purpose, and that is to help people find any and all healthy methods possible to get relief from their own personal emotional struggle, regardless of how large or small, current or past, painful or numbing. I see everyone's request for help as equal, whether it is a need to survive a horrible trauma, or to gain self-awareness and grow into the best person they can be.
