My Approach to Helping
My approach to therapy is Humanistic-Existential. Therapy in my view is a sacred journey to the core of one's being in search of meaning. Not unlike other explorations, here too, desire, determination, planning, and a roadmap are needed. Your therapist plays a critical role in planning and mapping your most crucial journey. There are times when psychological anguish has reached an overwhelming point by the time therapy begins. There, the 1st priority of therapy is to help the client to unpack the message enveloped in suffering. Therapy can help bring the realization that pain is the prelude to true awakening without which there can be no lasting clarity to light up your path in life. My beloved mystic, Rumi says it most eloquently in "only when you break you let the light in".

Concern about therapy process is not unusual, indeed a necessary component of therapy to be addressed early on. Addressing it invariably strengthens the therapeutic alliance and clarifies goals and expected outcomes. You should take your concern to your therapist and together work on it until you are genuinely satisfied. Hesitation in doing so may be an indication that the most crucial ingredient which is mutual trust, is lacking.
What I Say to People Concerned about the Therapy Process

The experience is one the paradoxes of existence in that it can be a destructive force and/or the most constructive tool. It all depends on one's approach to it.
