My Approach to Helping

Repetitive dysfunctional patterns of behavior may be affecting your relationships, your job, and certainly your overall self-esteem. Our work together is to first help you find and understand "why" you take certain negative actions, or become overly self-critical. I look to expose you to effective tools to change behaviors and patterns that are hindering you, and keeping you from evolving to a better place in your life. By exploring the "why am I the way that I am" questions, we will explore as to what may be holding you back. In this process, I will provide helpful tools so that your "inner critic" or "inner demons" can be understood, and thus managed more effectively. We will perhaps look to explore self-critical elements you've held on to, and, in time, place various negative behaviors in their proper perspective, thus making these defaults understood as you move forward. We can look to explore using various Psychodynamic modalities, but I find Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to be very effective toward bringing about lasting change. A primary goal is to help you broaden your own awareness and perspective as to yourself and situations.

I have a well-rounded understanding of the complexities involved in navigating very different worlds. I have owned and operated businesses. I've worked creatively, as both a professional actor and writer in the entertainment industry.

I have a deep passion toward helping others shift out of, and away from, long-standing negative patterns of behavior that have gotten in your way. Working safely together, we will examine what these patterns have been for you and why, with the ultimate goal of realizing you have new choices, leading you toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.

More Info About My Practice

My professional career prior to entering the field of psychology began after I graduated from Boston University's School of Management, earning a BSBA in Finance, with honors. I then worked in a number of different business ventures, and have owned and operated businesses while based in New York City, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

I have also had a separate creative career as both a stage and film actor, and as a writer in Theatre and Film, working in both New York City and Los Angeles.

One of the constants of my differing past careers has been the pleasure of communicating and connecting with people, exploring lives in depth, the complexities of the human condition and getting to what matters. My past experiences have informed my life and now enable me to help others with theirs.

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

I am here to focus on...you! I look to learn about you and your life, be there for you and whatever issues are there. I commit to being present for you and explore with you what you may be feeling in any given moment.
Research shows that the most significant factor toward a successful therapy outcome in therapy, is the relationship with your therapist.
As such, I offer a free 15-20 minute initial consultation, wherein we can get a sense of one another. By earning your trust, I hope you will "feel felt" by me and thus become comfortable as to sharing issues of shame, vulnerability, perhaps trauma...or whatever it is that is hindering you from getting to a better place in navigating life. I look forward to helping you grapple with the differing issues and "demons of the past" many of us endure. Together, I hope to provide you the tools to overcome obstacles that prevent you from moving forward in your life.
