My Approach to Helping
I am a lifelong resident of Chicago and received my MSW from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2015. I have worked with various age groups, from college-aged young adults to senior citizens. During this time, I have learned that no two people are the same and that everyone must be treated individually and holistically. I approach the therapeutic process with compassion and empathy, treating everyone with respect and dignity, and these are the qualities that I would bring to our sessions. During sessions, I would use a mix of motivational interviewing, compassion, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), among other appropriate techniques.
Above all else, I value creating a safe, nonjudgmental, and welcoming environment. I take a client-centered, collaborative approach, meaning that you set the goals and the pace of therapy while I support you in your journey. I use soft, non-combative, and non-accusatorial language. I listen empathetically and speak in a supportive manner, pointing out patterns and asking questions to help you learn more about yourself. It was my own strong desire to help people combined with my own experiences and struggles, and thinking of the therapists that have helped me throughout my life, that led me to pursue a career in social work.
It was my own strong desire to help people combined with my own experiences and struggles, and thinking of the therapists that have helped me throughout my life, that led me to pursue a career in social work. Because each person is a unique individual, I recognize that there is no one goal that is appropriate for everybody. This is why I work with you to define your own priorities and set your own goals. Above all else, I would like to help you navigate life with more happiness, confidence, and support.
The first session can be difficult because seeking therapy can be a scary first step. I will introduce myself and ask questions about you, your life, and what brought you to take that all-important first step so that we can get to know each other and figure out if I am the right person for you.
