My Approach to Helping
Hello, my name is Selam (Salaam) Beyene, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Colorado with over nine years of experience. I work with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, past abuse, relationship issues, and life transitions. My therapeutic style is an eclectic mix of client-centered, strength-based, mindfulness, and transpersonal approaches. I also lean heavily on cognitive behavior therapy.
No one is exempt from the challenges of life. You can’t be attractive enough, smart enough, or rich enough to opt out; this may be the one area in life in which we are all equal. Clearly, no one gets out of life unscathed, and our challenges can profoundly change us for either the better or the worse. Often, during times of struggle, our tendency is to distract or numb ourselves through alcohol, drugs, food, shopping, and any number of things. If we take this route and stay in it, we are like the living dead and leading a meaningless existence. But there is another way, a life where there may still be challenges and you may be tested, but it is also filled with purpose, meaning, and aliveness. Heartache, loss, grief, and despair can be a portal, a doorway, a hero’s journey. However, every hero’s journey has an ally, a friend, a mentor. It would be an honor to be your ally and mentor you through your journey, so reach out; I would love to talk to you.
