My Approach to Helping

Greetings! By seeking out a therapist, you've already taken a big step in addressing the challenges you're facing, rather than avoiding those challenges. I give you a lot of credit for doing that! Life can be complicated and difficult! What is the best way to deal with relationships & work challenges and conflicts? What is the best way to deal with anger, anxiety, stress, and depression? There are skills and approaches that have proven effective in psychological science for navigating life's challenges more affectively and also embracing life's opportunities with greater happiness and satisfaction.

My approach to well-being is to help my clients develop the gain these psychological skills that have proven successful in reducing conflict and achieving happiness, life satisfaction, and positive relationships. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Emotional Intelligence, Gratitude, Empathy, and Humility practices are among the more useful of those skills.

From 20 years of experience counseling individuals and couples for relationship, career, anger, stress, and other challenges, I know that every individual can develop thes skills and gain the ability to have a happy life with relationships and work. I take a pragmatic, practical approach that usually takes only several months, at which point, the client achieves a skill set that provides independence. I also provide opportunities for booster sessions down the line as new life challenges emerge.

I look forward to working with you and helping you facilitate your next positive life stage!

Best wishes,
Cheers,

- Dr. Shani Robins

More Info About My Practice

Too often, psychologists only focus on reducing anger, anxiety, stress, and depression. Although these goals are important, I also explicitly help clients develop skills that enhance their life satisfaction, quality of their relationships, work potential, happiness, and well being. Life can be more than just reducing suffering. It can be about actualizing our potential, enjoying and having fun, and helping others do the same!

My View on the Purpose of Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a focused way to develop the skills needed to cope well with life's challenges and pursue options that lead to greater life satisfaction and happiness...and to achieve that sooner rather than later!

I'm a big fan of what works so have taken several practices and techniques that have proven successful over decades, and continue to add cutting edge techniques from psychological science. Teaching at Stanford University provides me with frequent opportunities to be aware of and add the most current and successful methods.
