My Approach to Helping
"Hi, I'm Sharon! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about making strong human connections creating a safe place for growth and change. My approach is client-centered and strength-based. It is my belief in life we are ever-changing while often faced with difficulties and the ability to overcome. As a therapist, my goal is to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment to assist you in becoming the best version of yourself. I work with individuals, families, and adolescents who are experiencing various struggles including anxiety, grief and loss, chronic pain, job stress, phase of life issues, and distress related to trauma."
My approach to therapy is most importantly focused on creating a safe and secure relationship with my clients. I work towards achieving this while utilizing strength-based therapy, CBT, solution-focused, DBT, behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based. The most important aspect of my work is making supportive human connections. I have treated families, individuals, and adolescents. I am comfortable treating depression, anxiety, grief and loss, chronic pain, gender issues, trauma, phase of life, work stress, relationship issues, opposition issues in adolescence, parenting, and prenatalpostnatal care.
I have a very warm and compassionate tone with clients. I have been told by many clients over the past 22 years it feels safe and caring to be present with me. I also integrate humor when appropriate. I have an extensive history of working with adolescents and have made many strong connections with them. I was drawn to the career as a therapist due to my love for people and helping support positive change. The ability to make a difference and build a trusting relationship while witnessing growth in clients is one of the greatest rewards.
I approach goal setting with patients through treatment planning, giving patients a sense of direction as well as daily goals and encouragement of physical and mental lifestyle changes. My initial assessment will consist of introduction of self, review of my credentials, education, and experiences. Review of confidentiality and future scheduling, assessment, and most importantly what brought the client to seek therapy.
