My Approach to Helping
My name is Sidraya Bussie and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Jacksonville, FL, and working with Clients statewide via telehealth. I have worked in a variety of settings with Clients and populations providing specialty services in managing everyday challenges, life changes, mental health conditions, etc. I believe in taking a collaborative, holistic, and cognitive approach to counseling, but specifically to what fits the Client’s needs to help alleviate any discrepancies, increase motivation, and find purpose and balance in their life during a journey to self-healing. My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a Holistic approach, as these modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality, allow us to work together to focus on the positive aspects of their lives, and gain a greater understanding of themselves and increase self-esteem and self-confidence."
I have found that my therapeutic style and approach are a good fit for youngolder adults who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions, life stressors, and social pressures. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, stress, anger management, etc. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and to build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves and develop a more positive outlook on life. My communication style is a balance of being assertive, active listening, silent, calm, down to earth, exploring, clarification, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything and I pride myself on my ability to be nonjudgmental, have respect for others, and allow people to be their authentic self. I decided to become a therapist not only because I have always wanted to help people, but more so because it was a career that chose me. Whether it was volunteering in my community, being a trusted and loyal friend, or simply caring about others unconditionally; this career aligned with my personality and character very well. I have always naturally been drawn to helping people through difficult times and have always been told I have a warm and welcoming spirit. I really enjoy seeing individuals become the best versions of themselves, living in their truth, and self-healing.
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we will work together to set goals and track your progress. Clients should expect to begin building a therapeutic relationship (connection) with one another talking about how you been feeling recently, and me asking questions to better understand some of why you may be feeling that way, determining if the Therapist is a good fit for their needs, obtaining informed consent referring to the process about risk, benefits, and potential treatment outcomes of psychotherapy, going over and filling out paperwork (gathering information), talk about why they're in therapy to explore their personal challenges and goals, and schedule their next session hoping that they leave inspired and challenged to move forward.
