My Approach to Helping
Everyone has a story within them and YOUR story matters to me. If you are wondering if your issues are worth talking about and getting support for, allow me to share with you this thought from Viktor Frankl a Holocaust survivor, “To draw an analogy: a man\'s suffering is similar to the behavior of a gas. If a certain quantity of gas is pumped into an empty chamber, it will fill the chamber completely and evenly, no matter how big the chamber. Thus suffering completely fills the human soul and conscious mind, no matter whether the suffering is great or little. Therefore the \"size\" of human suffering is absolutely relative.” YOUR pain, YOUR difficulties, YOUR suffering and whatever it is that YOU are going through big or small matters. If it is impacting your life and you often find yourself pondering about it do reach out.
I will listen to you attentively with all of my being, I will provide you a safe space for you to be you, to express yourself, to work through the things that have brought you through my door and together we will work towards the things you want for your life. I work with the whole person, even parts of you that you think are not welcomed are welcome in the space I provide so that when all parts are embraced healing can take place. I also work with a person in a systemic way by taking into account the system a person in when I counsel because everything is related to each other in some way.
Make your mental health a priority! Reach out when you are ready or need to as my doors are always open and we can find a way together to support YOU!
More Info About My Practice
I decided to go into this line after personally experiencing firsthand what reaching out to mental health services did for my life. Due to my own lived experience and my educational background, I want to support and help people in what they may be facing in their own life which is holding them back from living a life that they have pictured for themselves. I would like an opportunity to work with you on your struggles by providing you a safe space to unpack and figure out a way forward together. I want to be able to provide you with skills and tools to have adaptive coping to manage what you may be facing in your life. I want the counselling I provide to be a start where you feel safe to confront what has been holding you back and hopefully change can happen progressively.
Counselling is a process and it is not a quick fix. When you decide to commit to the counselling process and you are willing to do the work you will begin to see changes in various aspects of your life.
If you have any questions at all please feel comfortable with reaching out to ask and hope to be able to do some amazing work with you. Please do call in or write in to inquire. Whatever difficulties you may be facing in coming in for sessions can be discussed together and we can work something out that is workable for you. I look forward to hearing from you.

The Duration and Frequency of Therapy
I get asked this question a lot from clients.
On Duration:
Your journey with me will begin with an intake session of 90 minutes. During an intake I will assess your specific concerns that brought you in that will help me get to know you, your history, areas that you would like to focus on and your treatment goals. In this process I will also provide recommendations and suggestions that fit your purpose of attending counselling. After an intake session if you choose to continue working with me subsequent sessions would run for 60 minutes where we will work on your therapy goals that you have set. Sessions that run longer than 60 minutes may be pro-rated.
On Frequency:
The length of treatment or number of sessions needed may differ due to various factors, needs and what you would like to work on. Typically to see changes clients are encouraged to come in for about 4 to 8 sessions. However, generally therapy usually continues for approximately 8 to 12 sessions. This being said I am open to having a discussion with you about whether you would benefit from having shorter or longer sessions. I am also mindful that income level may be a challenge for some so I am willing to pro-rate the fees accordingly to fit each individuals needs.
Research has shown that for therapy to be effective clients are encouraged to come in weekly, however, if this is not possible the next course of action that is recommended is for clients to come in twice a month (bi-weekly). The reason for this frequency is so that changes can be monitored and to see if the invention used is effective. Another crucial reason that clients are encouraged to keep up with their appointments is if too much time is left from one session to the next a counselor would have to be filled in during that session because a lot would have happened and this would not be an effective use of the therapy hour. Without consistent follow-up, the work that was done previously with a client may not be effective.
