My Approach to Helping
So you want to go to therapy because you keep hearing from everyone and their dog that it really works and can make you "feel better" or "unstuck". Problem is, you have very little idea what therapy actually is and are hesitant about talking to a stranger and telling them things about yourself that you think are (for lack of a better word) fucked up. Well, you're not alone in that thought. In fact, I'd say a majority of people are in that boat as the most frequent question I get asked is: "am I weird because I do so and so?" and "is it normal that I do such and such?". Most of us think we're weirdos and everyone else is normal.
You're normal, trust me. The fact is, we NEED to spit out all the stuff inside our heads and have someone listen...it's quite literally in our DNA, because we are social creatures. Despite this natural need, it's not easy to do because we don't want to be thought of as weak, weird, crazy, etc.. Luckily, therapy doesn't judge - it listens and understands.
That's what I can offer you: a truly safe space, honesty, and a good idea of what your next move should be. So if you really wanna give this thing called therapy a shot then reach out and see what all the fuss is about. And if you have tried it before and didn't like it, reach out. Shit, reach out just to say hi if you want. I look forward to meeting you!
