My Approach to Helping
My therapeutic approach is eclectic and is continually informed through a wide range of studies and continuous training. However, the primary approach I utilize is Gestalt. In principle and practice, this means that I am concerned with your experiences as lived and understood by you. This work tends to focus more on the here and now of your experiences, which includes bodily awareness and how the past may be showing up in the present. My aim is to support you in increasing your awareness of yourself and ability to stay present with your own experiences. Most importantly, Gestalt utilizes a more active approach in therapy. In session, we will get to experiment with new ways of being. Through this approach, you will get to experience change rather than just talk about it!
If you are into video games, tabletop games, comic books, anime, sci-fi, animated series, fantasy media, etc., then we could be a great therapeutic fit!
Geek Therapy can allow us to build rapport through shared language and interests. We can get right to the core of what you want to talk about without spending session time explaining basic terms, mechanics, or concepts. This shared space of understanding provides us the context through which to explore your feelings, thoughts, and experiences. And even more than exploration, it can also provide us with useful tools to support you in your therapeutic work.
