My Approach to Helping
I believe it should not be difficult to feel better and find the hope and answers you seek. At Silver Linings Therapy, I offer individual therapy for clients ages 8 and up. We start with an overarching intake to help me assess your individual needs, strengths, and goals. Together, we will identify triggers and build coping mechanisms so you can find peace.
Healing and learning to thrive is my mission. My therapeutic approach helps you identify your strengths, roles, and needs, teaches you to become a fierce self-advocate and boundary-setter, and empowers you to take control of your mental health journey. Call or email today for a free consultation, and we'll get started together.
More Info About My Practice
At my practice, I offer individual therapy for adults and children, and supervision services for Residents in Counseling. My therapeutic approach for children is centered around play and art, with self-expression at the core. For adults, many of my clients prefer to talk, but baskets of fidget toys and coloring items can be made available as everyone's comfort in my office is made a priority. I encourage everyone of all ages to find what helps them feel the safest in my office, from the softest of blankets to the spot on the couch they choose, which will allow them to open up and begin to heal.
I also offer supervision services for Residents in Counseling in the state of Virginia. Although typically this is done virtually, if you are located nearby, you're welcome to come in person for these sessions if you'd like. The supervisor-supervisee relationships are designed, according to the board of counseling, to cover the roles of teacher, counselor, consultant, evaluator, and monitor of client care, with the ultimate goal of helping you reach licensure.
If you are interested in learning more about either opportunity or would like to find out if I would be a good fit for your needs, please reach out via email or phone, and let's chat to get started on our journey today!
Important Factors for Choosing a Therapist
One thing I know for certain, it's hard to heal when you're in a space that is restricting your healing. It's okay when you're searching for a therapist to "shop" around and seek out one whose presence (both physical or mental) helps you feel more relaxed or at peace. We call this "goodness of fit", but really, you're asking yourself "Are the vibes giving healing?" "Is this a space where I can 'be me'?" "Do I feel heardunderstood?" "Does the timingscheduling align?". This is why I like to offer the free consultation, it allows potential new clients to meet me and begin to get a sense of this. I also like to let clients know that it's okay if they determine we're not a good fit after a few sessions because sometimes it does take time for the "newness" to settle down. Not every clinician will meet every need of every client. I'm passionate about helping you find the right fit by offering referrals and reaching out to colleagues with your permission if you do not feel like we're a good fit.
Why Going to Therapy Does Not Mean You are Weak or Flawed
Before making it into my office, you usually have to make the bravest step of all, admitting to yourself you need some help or guidance with what you've got going on in your life at the moment and seeking that help. That is bravery, not a weakness. We are brave when we choose to put our pride aside and do what's best for ourselves, even in the face of danger, fear, or difficulty. Bravery is choosing to break generational patterns that have caused a stuckness in your family which you want no part of. Bravery is choosing to look beyond the collective cultural shame or fear of asking for help and breaking down barriers for yourself and generations to come. Bravery is deciding you deserve a chance to live, even if you have a brain that wants to convince you otherwise.
