My Approach to Helping
As a clinical social worker, my approach is rooted in understanding my clients in the framework of their environment. This holistic view encompasses family, social, economic, physical, cultural and spiritual experiences. I strive to build an authentic connection with each of my clients and utilize a "strength-based approach" as a means to see opportunities and solutions rather than problems and emotional discomfort. My aim is to engage with my clients in a collaborative effort to find sustainable change through growth and learning experiences. My primary areas of clinical focus are trauma, mood disorders, anxiety, relationship issues, family issues, parenting and child development.
My background with children and families comes from prior work in the classroom with special needs children and working in supplemental education. It was this experience that helped shape my view of the client-therapist relationship and assists with making meaningful changes in my clients' lives.
I work with individuals, couples, children and families. One of my specialties is as a play therapist. I believe in providing children of all ages a safe environment to express their thoughts and emotions without judgment as a means of healing from past wounds, regulating emotions or supporting overall development.
