My Approach to Helping
In my professional experience, people come to therapy when they are feeling unhappy, stuck or blocked in some way and feel that they have exhausted their available resources and coping mechanisms. My role as a therapist is to serve as a guide to help the client identify and express their needs and wants, as well as assist the client in recognizing their strengths and abilities to heal and grow. I work with clients to help them understand their past experiences and current situation in order to move forward and make changes to facilitate the life and relationships they want. I am warm, compassionate, collaborative and interactive in my approach.

What I Love about Being a Psychotherapist
I love to help clients come to that "a-ha" moment! Those moments are the times when clients sort through all of their painful past experiences, their unmet expectations, their old wounds and hurts and disappointments, their "could-a, would-a, should-a" statements, and finally accept the reality of their story and what has happened to them. It is only then that a client decides to make a change in their thinking, feeling, reacting, relating, and behaving in order to start a new chapter of their story and have the present and future be more of what they truly want and need. While I cannot change a client's past, I can help them to have compassion for their past self (particularly during childhood when they had no control over what was happening in their life) and work on embracing the power and control they have now as adults to make different choices and decisions.
