My Approach to Helping
"My name is Susan Spehling, a licensed clinical social worker, currently licensed in Arizona, California, Oregon, and Nevada, and have been licensed since 2007 and in private practice since 2012. My work history includes the California Department of Corrections (CDCR) since 2005 as a clinical psychotherapist, probation, hospice, hospitals, and clinics, with extensive experience treating clients from a variety of cultures. I am also trained in disaster mental health intervention. I am a certified Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-II) and attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD) specialist (ADHD-CCSP) through Pesi, Inc. and Evergreen Certifications. I specialize in all areas of trauma, specifically posttraumatic stress (PTSD) and complex trauma. I am also a certified specialist in anxiety and resistant depression through the National Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapists (NACBT). I have extensive training in grief/loss, mood diagnoses, addictions and chemical dependency, chronic/terminal illness, relationship counseling, obsessive compulsion (OCD), panic/phobia, personality diagnoses, domestic violence/spousal abuse, consultation, and group training. My therapy modality is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and rational living. In this modality and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), I work closely with you to help you understand the connection between thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and situations (situations often being thought of as triggers). Through our journey together, you will become empowered to understand and re-evaluate and even rid yourself of "triggers" through my specialization in patient re-education and relaxation tools. CBT is a well-supported scientific method in the mental health community that has proven results, quickly! I look forward to working and walking with you on your journey to new, empowering, healthy thinking and positive, life-changing experiences as a result. I support and assist with your therapeutic goals and your goals for life! This is your time to live!"
