My Approach to Helping
Hi, I'm Susan Spissman. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2014, but knew I wanted to be a counselor since the age of ten. I've helped hundreds of clients thrive in life and business with solution-focused tools, and I am committed to equipping you to do the same. My approach to therapy depends on the client's needs. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, coaching, breath work, mindfulness, neurological techniques, and multiple other evidence-based modalities. I am open to counseling from the Christian perspective, as well as other perspectives.
My approach is geared towards high-achieving individuals who are driven to succeed. They often struggle with burnout, worklife balance, high levels of stressanxiety, perfectionism, fear of failure, self-doubt, and performance mentality. This can be further complicated by their Christian upbringing, and not knowing how to reconcile success with spirituality. Clients often tell me that they feel more peaceful when talking with me. I have a calm demeanor and soothing tone. I regard all clients with honor - this is a judgment free zone.
I have wanted to help people through counseling since ten years of age. I cannot imagine doing anything else. It is my greatest joy in life to see others thriving, successful, and fulfilled. My approach to goal setting with clients is collaborative. I believe that we can work together to accomplish client desires through open communication. We'll have check-in points along the way to stay on track, and measure progress. During our first session you can expect us to explore what brought you to therapy, and what you want to accomplish during our time together. I'll ask questions to better understand the situation, your feelings, your thoughts, and what you want to be different in your life. I will do my best to help you feel at ease with sharing personal information.
