My Approach to Helping
"Hello, I'm Taneesha! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who is passionate about assisting people while on their journey toward healing and growth in the face of the challenges they may be currently experiencing andor past traumas that may be causing distress." I am a person-centered, solution-focused, therapist who believes the client is the expert in their experience utilizing a trauma-informed approach. I believe in meeting the clients where they are while adapting to their needs. I also have a background in Acceptance and Comment Therapy as well as Mindfulness-based stress reduction. I am versed in CBT and DBT approaches and many others.
I have experience with ages 18-97 and have worked with clients with many different experiences and diagnoses including Anxiety, Depression, PTSDTrauma, Substance Abuse, Bipolar Disorder, Suicidal Ideation, and more. I have a warm, reflective & empathetic communication and listening style. I provide a safe and conferrable & safe environment for clients to be themselves while feeling validated and supported during sessions.
As a child in the foster care system, I did not feel heard or validated in my personal therapy sessions. I believed I could make a difference and make people feel seen, heard. I have been a support to people as early as high school with emotional distress as a peer support counselor. I believe therapy can be a powerful tool for growth and healing. It is truly gratifying to watch people grow while becoming empowered to resolve their inner conflicts or distress in their lives through the therapeutic process.
I believe in collaborating with clients to identify their goals for treatment & what they would like to get out of the time we share together. During our first session, we will explore what is bringing you to therapy & identify how you would like the session to flow while developing a therapeutic alliance and building rapport. We will also explore what hope to achieve by the time we conclude our therapeutic relationshipalliance and terminate sessions.
