My Approach to Helping

My name is Taylor Cummins Vinson and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC, NCC) in the state of North Carolina. My counseling experience includes outpatient counseling for clients who have experienced recent trauma, experienced domestic violence or have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. I believe in working closely with my clients to establish and meet their personal goals for achieving growth!

My approach to therapy is the belief that all my clients are capable of change and meeting their potential when given tools and support! I typically utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy during sessions, as well as creating an environment of positive regard and empathy.

Over my years of practice, I have transitioned to mostly working with clients who have experienced trauma andor have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. I have also attended numerous diversity training events to work competently with the LGBTQIA+ community.

During sessions, I focus on creating an environment that feels safe, supportive, and open. I will listen to you as you verbally process, as well as provide feedback to help you further process your experiences and gain clarity about them.

I became a therapist to provide support and guidance to those who have experienced trauma, after navigating my own difficult experiences as an adolescent and young adult. My work has always been focused on populations that others may not have the proper training to work with and often do not have access to the supportive resources they need.

I believe goal setting is a collaborative process between both the therapist and the client. Clients suggest their own goals or areas they wish to improve, and I assist them by refinding the suggested goal into something measurable; this assures that my clients will have a way to track their progress as they work towards their goals.

The first session is simply for us to get to know each other and begin covering your specific goals for therapy! The initial session will start by exploring what you're seeking from therapy at this time, as well as past therapeutic experiences and what you expect from me as your therapist. If there are topics that need to be covered during our sessions but you are not comfortable discussing them during intake, I will understand and hold space for that, and we can navigate that boundary together during a later session.
