My Approach to Helping
Hi, I am Theresa Manuel, LCSW. My focus area of practice is adolescents and young adults under 30 years old. My therapy is a person-centered approach: meeting people where they are and allowing the client to make decisions about their future.
The most common theoretical approaches that I use are Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focus, Motivational Interviewing and Experiential therapy.
I work with all types of clients that range from people with mental health to those with intellectual developmental disabilities. I am most comfortable with young adults and adolescents between the ages of 15-18 years old.
I am more of a listener but I make sure that the client feels comfortable, especially during the first session. I usually try to identify a topic that we both share and try to have a discussion around the topic.
I enjoy working with diverse groups and I am a people person.
Goal setting starts with the client. The client identifies the goal in most instances.
The first session is an introduction, getting to know the client and the client's expectations and outcomes from the sessions.
