My Approach to Helping
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 42 years of experience. I have worked with a variety of different issues, including addiction, sexualphysical trauma, PTSD, depressionanxiety, low self-esteem, Veteran's concerns, and couplerelationship problems.
With a broad background in a variety of psychotherapy treatments, I try to tailor my approach to the needs of the individual. There are some individuals who are struggling with stressful life events, while others have a difficult time even defining what bothers them. Many couples struggle with a lack of emotional connection leading to increased feelings of isolation and despair. Recreating that emotional connectionintimacy is an important focus of treatment.
I have been increasingly focused on providing couples counseling. I am comfortable with most conditions since I manage mental health units in large hospitals.
Establishing a good rapport is necessary for treatment. One has to feel comfortable and safe to share. Couples often feel hopeful after working with me.
I think I entered this profession due to my own problems and difficulties. The profession probably picked me versus my choosing it. I often see it as a calling.
Treatment goals need to be realistic and practical. Often smaller steps are more likely to be attained than creating too large of goals.
Usually, I try to map out a person's difficulties giving them a better idea of the landscape they are facing. This often requires getting to know the person.
