My Approach to Helping
My name is Timothy Shea MA LPC. I have been a fully Licensed Professional Counselor for 14 years, plus 3 years of being an Associate Professional Counselor. My interest in pursuing a career in the field of mental health developed out of a sense that I wanted to provide service to others in a way that fostered a sense of meaning and growth in their lives. I take pride in my ability to empathize with the consumers that I work with and to help them move forward in life and awaken their own unique potential. I look forward to working with you to help you unlock your potential.
I am comfortable and competent working within the more Humanistic and Transpersonal orientations. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and the various mindfulness approaches. I typically work with adults with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder. However, I am competent in working with clients in most areas where they would like to experience growth.
You can expect me to be friendly and attentive. I like to keep things informal and laidback so that when the client and myself get into some more emotionally intense material in the session we can transition in and out between the two. I was attracted to finding a career that would let me help people find purpose and meaning in their life as well as help clients discover and work through any conscious or unconscious resistance that is keeping them from being the person they want to be.
I like to let clients set their own goals while encouraging and exploring any resistance they may have towards either starting towards their goal or working towards the goal's completion. Let me get to know you, share what you are comfortable sharing, and Share what you are currently struggling with.
