My Approach to Helping

Are you feeling disconnected, alone, "empty" even though you have many things in your life that "should" make you happy?
Asking for help, especially from a stranger can be scary.
It is so important to find a therapist with whom you feel comfortable. Often people spend more time looking for the right car than they do looking for the right therapist. I encourage you to talk with several of us before making a decision.

My experience as a therapist over the last 30 plus years has taken me to many places around the globe, not literally, but figuratively.
Having parents who were different nationalities taught me to appreciate a large variety of people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds. I enjoy working with men, women, young adults, families, and couples.
We all yearn to be seen and understood, but have parts that sometimes won't allow us to truly connect with another out of fear, shame, hurt,
vulnerability, or rejection.

Almost a decade ago I learned a new way of doing therapy, called Internal Family Systems, developed by Richard Schwartz. I am not exaggerating when I say it has saved my life in so many ways, as well as the people I work with. Please take a look at on the internet to get a sense of how it works. I would be happy to tell you more when we connect.

I look forward to talking with you to see if we are a good fit.

How My Own Struggles Made Me a Better Therapist

Absolutely, my own struggles have been made me the therapist that I am today. I continue to go through challenges in my life, some similar to my clients, and some quite different. It has been so important for me to be able to "put myself" in someone else's shoes to really understand what they are going through. I might tell a personal story when appropriate, ( asking permission first)
if I think that it will be helpful to you. All of us share in the joy and pain of being human. Working with a therapist at times in my own life has been enormously helpful, particularly when I felt I should be able to figure it out on my own. That's when I know I need to make a call.
