My Approach to Helping
What makes for a meaningful life? There are as many answers as there are people in the world. And yet, we all have to answer this question for ourselves. Maybe you’re unsure of what you want out of life. Perhaps you do know, but feel conflicted about it. Therapy is a place where you can safely explore these larger questions around who you are and what you want so you can make lasting change and find meaning in every day.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent years working as a theater director. Both of these roles involve helping someone cultivate a narrative. The major difference with therapy is that we work together to tell your own story – and even rewrite the script along the way.
Whatever our “here and now” symptoms may be—anxiety, depression, anger, or jealousy—they’re almost invariably rooted in early life “then and there” experiences. Until we understand the roles we’ve been playing and the cast of characters around us, how can we ever expect the story to play out differently? My vision for you is to come out of therapy with a deeper understanding of your life so you can live a more fulfilling story.
