My Approach to Helping
Hi, my name is Wendi Nelson and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and psychotherapist working with clients statewide via telehealth. I specialize in working with young adults and adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, life transitions, low self-esteem, and emotional distress to improve and find more happiness in their lives. My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client I work with. I use solution-focused methods to set goals for myself and my clients and treat every session as an opportunity to make progress. I enjoy working with young adults and adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, life transitions, low self-esteem, and emotional distress. I am passionate about supporting my clients through various challenges and building skills to allow them to feel better about themselves.
I believe when a client feels heard and understood, trust begins to develop. I have a genuine desire to connect with my clients by actively listening and trying to understand my client’s views with empathy. I decided to become a therapist because I have always wanted to help people. I feel that helping others through challenges, not feel like they are alone, and empower them to have more peace in their lives is truly a privilege. My approach to goal setting with clients is to work together to determine what you would like to accomplish during our time together. The first session is about getting to know one another and learning about what brings you to therapy. I will ask a lot of questions about you and how you cope, as well as some background information. I have a genuine desire to see things from your perspective and understand how best to move forward.
