My Approach to Helping
I'm Wes! As your therapist, it is my goal to see you become a better version of yourself. It is my belief that life's experiences teach things about the world that may no longer be the most helpful or true today, even if they were true at the time in our past. When we don't adapt and remain flexible, we find ourselves in a web of mistaken beliefs, thinking errors, and unresolved life problems. As a result, it becomes too hard to find our way and manage life's challenges in the here and now. I love to be present when my clients find a new way and authentically experience change. I've worked with clients from many walks of life and with varied needs. My areas of expertise are in Behavior Modification, Depression, Anxiety, Psychosis, Risk Assessment, EMDR, Trauma, PTSD, and Sexual Paraphilias. I use a Cognitive Behavioral and Humanistic approach to help my clients bring out the best in themselves. I like to use humor, challenging questions, and a direct approach because I think in counseling, we should get to the point and have fun doing it. My favorite activities when I'm not at work are exploring and appreciating the outdoors by hiking, backpacking, and camping, spending time with my family, and trying new and exciting restaurants. I graduated from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago with a double major in Bachelor of Arts in Counseling and Biblical Studies. I then completed a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling at Lee University in Cleveland, TN. Selecting a therapist on a platform like SonderMind can be difficult because it's not easy to know exactly what you are getting into. "Will this guy really know what he's talking about? Is he a total quack? Will he actually be able to help me?" These questions are the norm for clients, and uncertainty comes with the territory of what you are searching for. It's my hope that we will make a great team and that you will become that better version of yourself you're searching for.
